Nothing makes me question my life choices like retyping a 40-line payroll journal by hand, then spending an hour hunting one transposed digit. https://t.co/rGC6WsABCH #payroll#bookkeeping#quickbooks
Reconnected a client bank feed last month and it quietly imported the same month twice. Revenue looked amazing. It was also completely wrong. https://t.co/uEMmg1y4gR #bookkeeping#QuickBooks
Payroll's due Friday and the account looks fine — until next week's supplier payment lands on the same day. A 13-week rolling forecast tells you week 6 is the problem, not week 1. https://t.co/kmioM10Xme #cashflow#smallbusiness
That Stripe deposit in your bank account is NOT revenue. It is gross sales minus fees, refunds, and tax. Book the net and your books drift every month. I built a free tool that maps any payout to a proper journal entry: https://t.co/GZwu5KxBCG #bookkeeping#ecommerce
Sold into 14 states but only registered in 3 — that's how you end up owing tax you never saw coming. This little tracker maps your sales-by-state against every threshold. https://t.co/tk5QgNoLMn #salestax#ecommerce
Third W-9 reminder email sent. Still unread. Every January I did this chase with contractors who had gone silent — now I just send them a link and they fill it in their browser, no account needed. https://t.co/C3mhoaDHwT #bookkeeping #1099
214 mystery transactions sitting in one client's Ask My Accountant account. One of them is a charge from Dave's Bait and Tackle — for a marketing agency. I laughed, then I cried. https://t.co/ufo6J34YXq #AccountingHumor#Bookkeeping
My clients still send bank statements as PDFs. I used to retype them line by line into QuickBooks like it was 2009. This free tool converts the PDF straight into transactions — file never leaves your browser. https://t.co/5ESaadVIo2 #bookkeeping#QuickBooks
@Predawnacc Mine: each rec's beginning balance has to tie to last month's reconciled ending balance. If it doesn't, something changed in a closed period. I'm building CoController AI to flag that, since it's easy to miss across many clients.
@jannygel Agree. The bank rec is where that understanding pays off. If you know a transaction hit the wrong account or got entered twice, you can explain a rec difference in minutes instead of hunting for hours.
@jasonlk 56% late and nobody knew is the scary part. An AR aging review at every close, with anything 30+ days flagged and an owner assigned, catches this fast. Billing by hand outside the CRM is usually where the gaps start.
@DinoJVidiliCons Training is the blocker I hear most too. What seems to work: pick one workflow (say, categorizing bank transactions), run AI alongside the old process for a month, and compare. People trust what they've watched get it right on their own data.
@ShaneStemberg The repeating ones are the costly ones. A quick monthly check that catches most of them: compare total deposits on the P&L to total bank deposits, then scan for same-amount deposits in the same week. Doubled income usually shows up right there.
A reconciled checkmark isn't proof.
Proof = beginning balance ties to last month's reconciled ending balance + this month's activity rolls forward to the statement.
That's how CoController AI's rec suite works. Good habit with or without a tool.

11 PM on the 3rd and I'm still coding Tuesday's bills. The 'easy' part of month-end somehow eats half my week. https://t.co/ZgI2Dskg2Z #bookkeeping#quickbooks#monthend
@ecommboardroom Agreed. The firms that make this shift usually start with one weekly number per channel, contribution margin after ad spend and fees, before trying full SKU profitability. Owners act on one clear number far faster than on a 12-page P&L.
@RkubeServices Good one. Writing the who and the business purpose in the transaction memo the same day saves a lot of reconstruction at year-end. Worth reminding clients that most business meals are still only 50% deductible, receipt or not.
@sthreelabs The gap between the documented process and the real one is where most close delays hide. Shadowing one person through a full month-end and writing down every step, including the quick checks and side messages, usually surfaces the eight nobody designed.
@vijaysimbha Great additions, thank you. Open items older than 30 days and manual JEs with no memo are exactly the two that cause surprises at review. Adding both to the list.
Month-end close for 10+ QBO clients shouldn't mean opening every file to see what's left.
One checklist per client:
• Bank recs done?
• # uncategorized
• Statements missing

@lawfirmcpa Misposted payments are the sneaky ones because the bank side can still tie out. A monthly three-way rec (bank statement, trust ledger, and every client ledger) is what surfaces them, and any client ledger running negative is the first red flag to chase.
