North and South Korea are still technically at war. Our ability to help defend our ally against the North Koreans is because our forces are well trained and able to coordinate with the South Koreans. Hollowing out these joint exercises is shortsighted and a mistake.
For 70 years, America has held these joint exercises to train AND reassure its Asia-Pacific allies.
Furthermore, North Korea's Kim Jong Un is NOT respectful of the USA, now or ever.
In the past few months, he has blatantly said NoKo is and always will be a nuclear power, specifically to ward off any hostile action, like America and Israel's war on Iran.
Kim told his rubber stamp parliament in March: "The government of our republic will continue to consolidate our absolutely irreversible status as a nuclear power and will aggressively wage a struggle against hostile forces to crush their [anti-North Korean] provocations and schemes."
He already has dozens of nukes, and in June, called for an "exponential" expansion of Pyongyang's arsenal. They'd already ramped up dramatically since Trump's failed Hanoi summit with Kim in 2019, which I covered.
Afterwards the SoKo FM told me the summit and its aftermath was a debacle and a missed opportunity: "This is the typical Trump leadership on these issues," she told me in 2024. "Will, but very little follow up and support from the working level. So, that's a huge lesson when we ever it go back to a phase of engagement with North Korea."
Since then, Kim has ramped up missile testing, while his soldiers now have real battlefield experience since fighting for Russia against Ukraine.
Respectful?
During his campaign for president Donald J. Trump was deeply concerned about the Strategic Petroleum Reserve during the Biden admin. He doesn't seem upset now that the level of oil in the reserve is the lowest it's been since 1983. I provide receipts.
Our service members are paying the heaviest price for Trump’s new Middle East war. The very least he can do as Commander-in-Chief is support them, not insult them.
Trump is suspending exercises with South Korea because he says he has a “really good relationship” with Kim Jong-un.
Meanwhile, North Korea has nuclear weapons, threatens our allies, supplies Russia’s war against Ukraine, and has sent troops to fight alongside Putin.
This is how American alliances get destroyed — and how you convince countries like South Korea and Japan that they may need nuclear weapons of their own.
The damage from this could last generations.
"We've arranged a society based on science and technology, in which nobody understands anything about science and technology. And this combustible mixture of ignorance and power, sooner or later, is going to blow up in our faces."
- Carl Sagan
From @WSJopinion: Trump’s Iran war was a miscalculation. He had neither the military resources nor the domestic support for a long war, nor the personal appetite for one, writes Holman W. Jenkins, Jr.

This barbaric Russian war crime in Kherson requires international condemnation and justice, yet thousands of similar crimes never reach the public eye.
This is a deliberate and systemic Russian strategy. They know exactly what they are doing. The sadist operating this drone knows full well that he is targeting a civilian.
This horrific video proves that Russian barbarians will try to repeat their genocidal atrocities of Bucha wherever they can reach.
A lasting peace requires comprehensive justice for such horrific crimes, a powerful defense and deterrence package for Ukraine, and reliable, guaranteed security for our people.
Correct.
There was once a time when he just told lies and didn’t care whether what came out of his mouth was true or not. Now he’s convinced himself that whatever he says is true, because to confront reality in any way would crush his fragile ego. He has decompensated to the point of being psychotic.
And he’s only going to get worse.
Dear followers,
I’m happy to share this short interview about my new book.
Five Questions with Nobel Prize Winner Daron Acemoglu https://t.co/QJuMEDQTHf
🚨HOLY SHIT: Kaitlan Collins just gave the perfect explanation for why Trump attacks her.
“I think he surrounds himself with people who praise him or laugh at his jokes…”
Ouch!
“when he’s confronted with someone who is asking a challenging question… I think he doesn’t like it, and he lashes out over it.”
She absolutely nailed it.
Nobody believes Trump anymore.
Not "locked and loaded." Not that diplomacy is "going well." Not the bridge and power plant claims.
And the oil market doesn't believe him either. I told you prices would climb back up once those waivers got yanked. They did.
The gap between what he says and what's actually happening keeps growing. And the screams (in the form of leaks) are coming from inside the building!
