Fortunately I was always very aware of the food I ate for a 7 year old. Always checked the ingredients label for nuts. But had I just blindly eaten it that day like many kids would, I may not be here today. No kid should be denied hot lunch ever

In 2nd grade I was short a dollar for hot lunch, my mom forgot to refill my lunch account. Instead of giving me my hot lunch and my account go $1 in debt, the lunch lady handed me a Nature Valley bar instead. It had peanuts in it. I am very allergic to peanuts. I was 7 years old.
