The sacrifices you have to make to get in shape are no different to the pain you are going through right now.
You feel like shit anyway.
Whether it’s because you don’t like the way you look or your body hurts.
At least the pain that is derived from exercise is beneficial.
The one line people use to kill people’s dreams…
“It’s not that simple”.
They try to make you believe that life is harder than it actually is because they didn’t have it in them to achieve what they wanted too when they were your age.
Funny… it is that simple.
If you’re happy with the current version of yourself then yes stay doing what you do.
But if you know you are capable of more you’re doing yourself a disservice to not try.
Yes, you can be happy with simple things and live a fulfilled life. The point of working hard and becoming financially successful is not only about the money. It is about the person you have to become in order to create a business so successful.
Yes you may end up doing the same things with your leisure time at the end of the day. But one hasn’t changed in 40 years and the other has been constantly improving themselves.
The act of personal growth is where the fulfilment is.
If you can believe in yourself and do the work despite not having the proof to know that you can do it, that is the secret ingredient.
That’s why getting quick results is super important to keep you on track, so it builds momentum and belief to keep you going.
Nobody talks about the belief you need to have in yourself to get lean and strong.
We always talk about what you should be doing or avoiding but the mental game often gets ignored.
That’s exactly where the magic lies.
If you can believe in yourself and do the work despite not having the proof to know that you can do it, that is the secret ingredient.
That’s why getting quick results is super important to keep you on track, so it builds momentum and belief to keep you going.
If you want to get stronger, you have to realise that looking at your progression over a 8-12 week block is much more telling than looking at your numbers week to week.
To do this you need to be logging all your reps and weight lifted during each session.
Track your data.
The one trait every client who gets results has is that they’re open minded.
Most people don’t realise they’re the ones stopping themselves achieving what they want.
The people I’ve seen transform are the type of people who take action and implement feedback quickly.
First, ask yourself… have you pushed yourself close to failure on the exercise?
Were you well recovered?
Meaning did you have a good sleep?
Were you hydrated?
Were you fuelled? (did you eat something?)
If yes to all of these then you can switch it up.
If I plateaued on an exercise and couldn’t increase in reps or weight, this is what I would do.
You’ve probably thought of changing the exercise thinking that you can’t progress any further.
Before you switch the exercise or your program, do this.
Avoid the mistake of giving up when work and life gets busy.
Something is always better than nothing.
You will slow down your progress if you don’t at least do the bare minimum.
The worst thing you can do is decide to do nothing.
I track all of my clients circumference measurements, as well as scale weight and progress photos.
This gives me 3 variables to compare and assess how they’re progressing.
Without it, you’re just guessing.
If you are tracking your weight consistently and the scale isn’t moving listen carefully.
Relying on one metric to work out if you’re progressing is dumb.
If you want to get leaner, you have to have multiple ways to track your progress.
But what are those metrics...
