@BradfemlyWalsh If you don't want to sound dense, you could just be quiet. Better to be quiet and be thought a fool that to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Okay, I'm going to dinner now. So, you will have to find someone else to correct your many weird misunderstandings of the world.
@BradfemlyWalsh If you don't want to sound dense, don't talk about "America." It's a country as large as your continent that has 50 states. Refer specifically to the state and people will respect you more. I know you like to think that Europe has a great diversity of culture, but hmmm.....
@BradfemlyWalsh It really is okay. You are welcome to continue to enjoy American culture when you want to participate in something that isn't dead yet. We don't mind. Continue to enjoy our movies, music and anything else you want. We Americans are very generous that way.
@BradfemlyWalsh Oh my. You just get better and better. Now you're talking about a guy who was born in the 19th century as an example of contemporary Dutch culture. This is the difference. Your most recent cultural reference is from the century before the last.
@BradfemlyWalsh No. I mean European smugness. I lived in Europe for five years and have visited most of the countries there. Everyone knows Europe is a continent. Did you think that was some super duper European only information? You're very funny.
@BradfemlyWalsh I've been to the museums in Amsterdam. They're lovely. But sometimes you want something that has a bit more life to it. While you find the US jarring, many Americans experience Europe as a Museum. You go and see the old stuff, but as some point you want something more relevant.
@BradfemlyWalsh@ThoughtMiss Some people broaden their horizons with travel. Others just broaden their backsides. I think we know which category you're in. ๐คฃ
@BradfemlyWalsh It's okay though. Europe has been borrowing American culture for at least a century and a half. So you still have access to some contemporary culture that you can enjoy before visiting your local Medieval castle.
@BradfemlyWalsh Jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, folk, tap, abstract expressionism, hip hop, rock and roll, innovative regional cuisines blending traditions of many immigrants groups, diverse architectural forms, a uniquely American literature (w/ 12 Nobel prize winners in lit), to name a few.
@BradfemlyWalsh Yes. Europe hasn't created culture in centuries, so some Europeans believe that culture is only found in what's old. If they had created anything culturally significant in the last few centuries, they might understand that culture doesn't have to be dead.
@BradfemlyWalsh@thx1138_v2 But, it isn't as good and the wait times can be lethal. It shouldn't have to be a trade off. Everyone deserves the quality of health care we have in the US for free or a price they can afford. Right now, no country offers that.
@yea_karen53@nicolegelinas I was on a crowded car of the NYC subway one day and a man pulled a hammer out of his pocket. EVERYONE in the car moved to the next car as quickly as we could.
@mangohedonist@Blvcko00@BillWiIdin People all over the US are supporting families with 4 kids on less than 100k. The fact that it won't support the lifestyle you want is another issue.
