#Thatching across the UK & occasionally further afield since 1985.We also do roof surveys/inspections on private & commercial thatched properties 0845-500-1986
Not all roofs are suitable to be thatched. I have advised an Estate managing this property that the roof is too flat a pitch to re-thatch and won’t last. The local Council say it must be re-thatched! We certainly won’t be re-thatching it. #Thatching.
@HilarityjaneArt A couple of yrs ago we changed the window tops on a listed property with new roof timbers( following a fire) from thatch to Lead. The very slack pitch meant the old thatch failed after about 8 yrs. Previously the Council passed it for thatch.🙈.
@Aeraeus I think the argument is no one can remember it or rather has photos of it going back far enough to show what roof covering it had previously .
Shepherd’s Cottage in #Hale, #Merseyside is now complete. This listed cottage dating from 1665 was thatched in straw, but because of the straw shortage the owner got permission to thatch it in reed. With a simple flush ridge l think it looks well in reed.#Thatching. #conservation.
@gpwitteveen Water reed in Uk is generally stripped 100% , straw is often re-coated & as a result can get very thick with multiple layers ..sometimes 1-2 metres.
A few issues on day one of this job. Some stinging ‘creatures’. A 20’ gap to bridge with additional scaffolding. The flimsy roofs can’t be taken away.We will have to screw some battens into the old rafters so we have something to fix the thatch to-& the roof will need new gutters.
Just another thatch roof renovation on a 400 year old listed building in #Bramhall. Jim, Dave & Andy also did a lot of ancillary work,.. Lead-work, tiling, woodwork, painting and rendering to help the customer and move the job along. #Thatching, #MasterThatchers.
@TinyWriterLaura We have worked on that cottage on several occasions and the owners were always very happy. We re-thatched that front elevation in 2009.
