@charlesmurray You can never know for any one interaction, but I know speaking for myself that reciprocal politeness -> high trust society -> heartfelt gratitude and affection toward my fellow citizens.
The opposite would also be true.
@wesyang Is this problem unique to LGB? It seems every liberatory project has a problem with an inability to pack it up once they get what they want. Each new wave of feminism got louder, prouder, ruder, and frankly meaner to stay relevant. That doesn’t mean the first wavers were wrong.
@stephenkaus@conor64 He needs to produce the receipts if he’s going to be believed. What specifically were these falsehoods and what was the bias? We need specifics.
@wesyang It's the same story with race relations. Not too bad in the early 2010s, and then when wokeness became ascendent it ruined it. Wokeness always makes everyone hate each other more:
@avidseries I would always have assumed that you'd dislike this guy viscerally given your intense allergy to rightoid trad aesthetics/lifestyle. You would be miserable in Walsh's world. Me too.
So while disliking him intensely, I can still admit he knocked this one out of the park.
@Ozymandias343@RichardHanania Right. His haters hate him for the wrong reason. It goes to show that these people's brains are completely drunk on symbolism. They don't know what's real. They don't know what matters. Substantial analysis is completely lost on them.
@tracewoodgrains Uncomfortable admission from a secular humanist: civilization seems to need something that functions like religion. I'm glad I left fundamentalism behind. But the honest move isn't denial — it's designing a version we can live with.
@SinNomb54107159@RichardHanania Yup. Which is to say we’re a nation of idiots and Trump is highly skilled in manipulating those idiots. Trump knows it himself. He calls these idiots basement dwellers: https://t.co/vVmaKR663x
@mattyglesias Right. And let's be clear: The Groups aren't interested in beating Republicans. They're only interested in electing lefties. They're not pro-Democrat. If *they* can't get elected, they don't much care whether a Dem or a Rep gets elected. They're a 5th column in the DNC.
@autocorrect2_0@SarahTheHaider She wasn't rationalizing anything. She was asked why the boys aren't sold the same way girls are, and the answer is that this isn't a viable "path to respectability" via "marriage" in their culture.
@SarahTheHaider I glossed over "horde" of stupidity. My bad. I now see what you're getting at. You weren't just calling this one person out.
Perusing the thread I'm seeing this very stupid "horde" with an unwavering commitment to reading you uncharitably on this topic. It's disturbing.
@titusfilm And if someone asks, "a better world in what sense?" Better in the sense that you have a better chance of successfully pursuing happiness for yourself and those you care about in it than in any previously existing world.
@titusfilm 100%. I'm just trying to arrest a potential slide into a Nietzscheanism that treats the Übermensch as a terminal goal. The founders were our ubermen, not because they were effective conquerors (though they were), but because they were effective leaders in building a better world.
@custardlake@SarahTheHaider I mean, I pointed out the ambiguity in the statement, she made it clear that’s not what she meant, and you’re still going to hold her accountable to a position she clearly said she doesn’t hold? Why do you do this?
@SarahTheHaider It’s *clearly* being maximally uncharitable in chasing the interpretive gap to seize the opportunity to get some cheap virtue signaling shots in. I just didn’t find THIS example so mind-boggling. There was a gap, and an idiot went for it.
