If they however sign directly with the AHL team, they of course are not under an NHL contract.

The pay has no say in this.

@seckzey @EmptyNettersPod @DucksKeys They're being signed by NHL teams - that makes it an NHL contract. A two-way deal just means the NHL team can assign/loan them elsewhere. It's still an NHL contract.
