🇿🇦🇲🇱 South Africa built a new library and archives facility in Timbuktu to preserve Mali’s ancient manuscripts.

The project began after Thabo Mbeki’s 2001 visit to Timbuktu. South Africa worked with Mali to construct the facility, train Malian conservators and protect the manuscripts as part of Africa’s intellectual heritage.

The new building was officially handed over to Mali in May 2010.

The mission aims to send South African-designed spheres to the lunar surface, which will be the world’s first radio telescope on the moon to study low-frequency signals.

Stellenbosch University Engineers and Students have built the electronics for the mission.
