The £83.30 per week Carer’s Allowance isn’t a wage. It’s a token. It works out to £3.56 per hour for 35 hours — and many carers give 60–100 hours a week. That’s 24/7 responsibility with no sick pay, no annual leave, no pension, and no job security 🧵

We can’t leave. To do so puts our relatives at significant risk. But we’re expected to remain, day after day. We don’t get a “day off” we don’t get “a lunch break”. Despite the amount of hours we do, in hospital instead of in our home, carers allowance is taken from us - why?
