Dolly Parton: My daddy told me that the Imagination Library probably was the most important thing I'd ever done. Inspiring kids to love to read became my mission. In the beginning my hope was simply to inspire the children in my home county, but here we are today with a worldwide program that gives a book a month to over a million children.

Deeply saddened by the news of Dolly Parton’s death.

In Scotland, her Imagination Library inspired a love of reading and provided thousands of free books for children.

Her warmth, generosity and her music were truly one of a kind. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

@VeriPatriot45 @UFWupdates @ChildOfAlba There is NEVER a valid excuse to underpay workers. These arguments are used all the time by opponents of living wages & mandated minimum wages.

They never hold water. Pay the damned workers or learn what hungry feels like.

Or grow your own crops. It’s easy. Unskilled work etc

@VeriPatriot45 @UFWupdates @ChildOfAlba Anyone can do the job without formal qualifications, true. That’s what “unskilled” means, but it takes a lot of experience to harvest properly without damaging. A good harvester can get 3-4 times the amount in the same time with no damage compared to an inexperienced worker.

Haven’t been in any doubt for a couple years that a flat vote right now would be a yes. A decent campaign and I think it could be 65%.

@JamesMelville Could be done at the local govt level. I even suggested a draft bill to allow for that. Edinburgh for instance could make serious cash from businesses that generate substantial profits there.

Our movement is stronger for that. It is also stronger if people say “here’s what I think we should do” rather than demanding others “do something” without suggesting what.

@_lukebuchan_ @davidbirkettsnp Burning oil just seems so wasteful to me when it can be used for petrochemicals like plastics and other things that making from sustainable options would be incredibly difficult.

So we will need oil still.

But I’d still hope we can stop using it for fuel and switch to EVs etc

It is a difficult one because we all want to transition away from fossil fuels & reduce our dependence. But we also want to support our oil & gas industry in Scotland.

I see it as a transition from using them as fuels to using them as feedstock.
