@vangmay1@mctmCONNECT@mctm_mn I feel like given students some choice is a good start. My Ss choose their student presentation problems, and how they will share their knowledge with the class.
@MrCorleyMath @desmosclassroom See? There is a reason I am still on this bird site. I have been wondering about the option to present Desmos. Cool stuff! Thanks for sharing!
@DanRShafer I was a candidate for a Kohl scholarship as a senior in hs. Each student had an influential teacher speak about them. At the end of the evening, he awarded all the candidates with the scholarship. I later returned to be an influential teacher with 2 of my students. Wonderful guy!
@mrs_sdholloway@AdoreMe If girl math was the only trend, I might see your point. What do you say about all of the other "fill-in-the-blank math" trends? Like "teacher math"? https://t.co/KXjsbUqBZC
@LamsonNguyen15 Disagree. As a student when I had to take timed tests on math facts, I would freeze up. My brain would just repeat the question over and over again, without accessing my memory. Now, I am a math teacher and I look at tests as rough drafts. Error analysis is more powerful.
@desmosclassroom and @Desmos has been amazing to teach online with! Wishes: 1)pause individual students - would help with pacing for students who need extra help but the rest can just keep going. 2)ability for students to post and answer feedback. 3) customizable scoring
@hotdogontology I agree that the math required to do taxes is already taught in schools. If parents are wondering, the IRS has a great site for learning all about taxes. https://t.co/0cmxz0zWYS
Here @MnDeptEd, we believe everyone is a mathematician. Families can support their students in simple, everyday ways to grow their comfort and confidence in using math skills needed to succeed inside and outside the classroom.
@geoffkrall I think we need more courses that focus on the teaching of math concepts, and the vertical alignment of the concepts. Instead of requiring more math courses in the math department, there should be more courses in math education. This is a science in itself!
