@Mathgarden @HumResPro As a high school math educator, I disagree about being in a ‘permanent bubble of denial.’ Incorporating VNPSs into our rooms has provided opportunities for teachers to get kids thinking again. First steps. You are welcome into my class anytime!
2nd gr. mathematicians worked together to estimate and count large collections with regrouping. They shared their strategies and critiqued the reasoning of others! Favorite kid quote, “That was mind blowing!” #RCSpride

@joboaler@taylorswift13 Thank you for sharing Taylor's message. I keep a quote above my desk that @chaoskeeper11 shared... she was actually quoting @joboaler . "If you're getting push back, you're probably doing something right." It has propelled me forward every time I get resistance. THANK YOU Jo!
Love showing ideas like this to high school students and watch those that have always struggled with memorizing FINALLY understand what was going on in the problem.
No more memorizing "negative and negative give positive". The power/flexibility of zero pairs AND the understanding that (identical number) subtract (identical number) is ALWAYS zero.(ie. "I have no (-5)! Get some! Takes a while to sink in, but has tremendous power when it does:)
@LaraMathcalf @joboaler Continuing to work toward providing equity in math education is exactly what we need to do right now to show Black Lives Matter.
