Not really a critique of Oli, just an idea. Oli is not alone, as many managers use their closer in t9 of tie game, as there’s no potential save situation for home team. But my question is…
Could Oli and #STLCards consider saving Helsley for extra innings in these situations?
Given all that, I totally understand using Helsley for in 9th but just something consider to consider.
Or maybe answer is to use him in 9th and 10th if pitch count allows, which it probably did Monday at least. Last night maybe not since he also pitched Monday.

What a joke! He sure handled last year well between Tyler O’Neill, Willson Contreras, and losing 91 games. Fans love him (not), so let’s extend him. #stlcards
Nothing to do with Oli, but why isn’t a guy like this getting an extended look? He got 1 inning in a 13-2 blowout. Let’s keep him up here, put him in a close game and see what he’s got. #STLCards
Were there any postgame comments from Marmol last night regarding his decision not to pinch hit for Motter in 9th with Arenado, Contreras, O’Neill, etc.? I haven’t see it yet but would’ve interested in his reasoning if he’s trying to win games. #stlcards
The next night, Marmol left Arenado, O'Neill, Gorman and Contreras on the bench all nine innings while Taylor Motter struck out as the tying run to end the game.
So Jordan Walker can't play the field for two innings because winning is important but Taylor Motter can hit for himself as the game tying run in the ninth? With Contreras, Arenado, O'Neill and Gorman on the bench? #STLCards
I get it, with Gorman scratched and Donovan unable to throw, you’re limited on 2B options and Motter has to play…but does he have to bat 7th instead of 9th. Not that Dejong/Knizner shouldn’t be at bottom but they should bat before Motter. #stlcards
The man, the myth, the legend Taylor Motter is starting for the 4th time in 5 games though, so not all rainbows and lollipops with the starting lineup. #stlcards
