Itβs time to start thinking of trig functions as what they actually are. Yes, cosine of x is the adjacent over the hypotenuse, but there is more to it. Imagine being a point on a circle, and then recording how your x coordinate changes as you move around the circumference of the circle. That is actually what the plot of cosine of x is telling you. Similarly for the sine of x, where instead you record the variation in your y coordinate.
