Submitted this photo for the #under27 Brussels Street Photography Festival Photomarathon, and I won! The theme was “everyday surrealism”, 24 hour window to take a photo in the streets of Brussels.
I found a traffic cone chained to a tree.
People, train, other people, a different train, another day, another train, other people still… in a weird way, everything repeats itself, but is never quite the same.

Can’t stop, won’t stop.
Brussels, 2023.
It’s easy to get frustrated with photography, with anything that takes time really… No matter what I have, I want something that requires more. More time, more effort, more faith.

At a breakneck speed, the train rushes past the landscape. Everything is recognisable for just a moment, but let two or three minutes pass and it all blends together eventually…
Morning rush. An empty train wakes up and starts moving. Stop by stop it fills up. At first everyone sits alone, then more people enter, and slowly but surely the day begins.
Finally — the city.
The art, the smell of waffles, the sound of footsteps and steel locomotives below. But who stops to take in even a fraction of all this beauty?
Every day there must surely be someone… all I know is that today it wasn’t me.
Many things go through my mind. Some stick around, others don’t. Still, all of them leave something behind, even if it’s just dust that sticks around in a corner.
I've written a Comment piece for @thetimes about the restriction of wild camping on Dartmoor, and England's minimal land access in general.
