Say hello to our October cover star! This Arctic lemming was photographed by @MathildePoir during a study that explores how winter weather events like melt-freeze and rain-on-snow affect these high-latitude critters

Excited to share our new paper in @ESAEcology ! ❄️
Our 17-year study shows that even moderate winter events (rain-on-snow, melt-feeze) can negatively influence lemming winter reproduction and population growth. 🐹

New paper in @SpringerEcology! 🐹❄️
Our study shows the importance of deep snow in #lemming habitats, providing them with favorable conditions. But there's a tradeoff: deeper snowpack means tougher snow, impacting lemming winter reproduction negatively.

Shrub branches are great thermal conductor (about 20X more than snow!). Those shrubs can lead to a cooling of the permafrost in winter (thermal bridging by frozen branches) and a warming in spring (light/heat absorption by buried branches). ❄️ See our new study in @NatureGeosci

I have the chance to be involve in this amazing multidisciplinary project! Check out our new paper about the challenges and design of a camera trap filming lemmings under the snow! 🐹🎥 @sentinelle_nord
By applying new solutions to their camera traps, these researchers obtained the first videos of lemmings under the snow during the Arctic winter! @cen_nord@universitelaval
