Physical Therapist and NYG fan here. He also had a meniscus repair which is arguably a most restrictive rehab process than an ACL alone. My assumption is that the “stiffness” was related to that and the scope was to break up scar tissue/adhesions. That “metal bar” technique is mostly BS and has little rehab benefit. His surgery happened weeks ago and there has been no change to his return to play timeline, which is a great sign. Whether or not he returns to his expected level of play this season is certainly up for speculation.
