A true skeptic is skeptical of other skeptics.
Here we have Tony Heller claiming the NY Times is full of crap using station data from Unionville, MO. What his graph doesn't show you? The missing days in Unionville's dataset (most of which occurred in recent years)
That kind of event can occur independent of climate change. An increase in the Melt rate can destabilize glaciers, but even in a constant climate, mountain glaciers fluctuate at their endpoints and occasionally become unstable and shed mass. There are several historical events of similar scale, some well-known ones in South America even over a century ago resulted in loss of thousands of lives.
@RARohde@ChrisMartzWX Could end up benefitting some productive crop growing regions too, resulting in surpluses entering the global market.
Global trade is the true safety net for adverse local weather patterns.
@EthonRaptor@PaulRoundy1@charlesmurray I can't tell if this is trolling.
It's a dataset looking at a conglomerate of stations, and then averaging amongst that conglomerate how many days in a year a certain temp threshold is reached (95, 100, 105) per station.
@RARohde The only thing I could think of seeing this was the December 1934 Chinook Event. Fairbanks has only ever had 3 December days where the temperature stayed above freezing all day. All 3 of those days occurred in December of 1934.
@PaulRoundy1@charlesmurray Looks to me like just number of 95F, 100F, and 105F days per year, averaged across the US dataset. The Midwest specifically is the region that has larger variations in these temp thresholds in any given year, so the graph is more or less kind of biased towards the Midwest.
@PaulRoundy1@MatthewWielicki One of those instances where the claim doesn't come close to passing the BS detector. I haven't read the study, but I'm guessing this uses some LNT type of assumption, an assumption that has time and time again shown to be heavily flawed when applied to health.
@Revkin@undarkmag@AlexanderKaurov I've always side-eyed near every paper attempting to quantify economic impact in the future due to climate change. It seems like one of the main assumptions is always that we humans will not adapt to the changes of our climate, and we are just sitting ducks awaiting our fate.
Checking out @Grokipedia article on Tropical Cyclones (Hurricanes) and Climate Change.
It's a masterpiece. I could not have written this better myself (or with help of @RogerPielkeJr)

The outrage over Kimmel’s canning is incredibly stupid, but it’s also enormously rich coming from the same media outlets who have cheered the government actually censoring people, particularly during COVID.
Let me know if you can spot the difference in tone? ⤵️
@Camburnclimate But, not just that. Most sensible humans know what happened today was awful. Only a very vocal and crazy minority say otherwise. A 'hit' would be political suicide for the left. Straight up.
@Camburnclimate No one can confirm at the moment. But it's VERY difficult to see it any other way.
I know you're joking here, but let's pretend there is some world where it was a hit hired by someone from the left in power, how stupid would they be to assume the 'hit' would not be returned?
@MatthewWielicki With other stations nearby in the upper 90s, and one near Tampa also at 100, it isn't unreasonable at all to believe Tampa legitimately hit 100.
