For me, living in a small Alaskan Bush community...I got out there with my students, fishing and hunting...working on native dresses with the locals. After my students saw me outside of school, participating in their culture, it made our student/teacher relationship πͺπ½#vamathchat
Each place that I lived and taught, I had to learn the different cultures of my surroundings. The bush of Alaska where students lived off of hunting and fishing was totally different than the migrant workers children in Oregon. #vamathchat
As a teacher who has taught in Oregon, Alaska, and Minnesota, moving to Charles City, Virginia was a totally different cultural experience. I had never taught African American kids before. #vamathchat
