“The ICRC helped me restore my hope. Now I can walk again”. Said Abdul Jalil, who lost both of his legs and a hand in a mine explosion.
He added, “When I lost my limbs, I was down and thought I would no longer be able to work & take care of my family. Now, I have hope again.”
Almost 7.500 vulnerable farmers in remote areas of Kandahar province received support from @ICRC_af The assistance will help them have seeds and fertilizers, meet their basic needs and thus revive their farmlands which were affected by the conflict and the ongoing drought.
#Confidentiality doesn't mean inaction and silence.
This means talking directly - person to person, eye to eye - of difficult, complex topics and issues.
Not shying away from our responsibilities toward people affected by armed conflicts.
Staff at Mirwais hospital in #Kandahar has been working restlessly for years, to assist the #Afghan population. Such a pleasure to present our amazing colleagues to @RMardiniICRC
Today I visited @ICRC-supported Mirwais hospital in #Kandahar, serving up to 9 million people in southern #Afghanistan. With some 4,000 patients seeking treatment each day, the hospital is a stark illustration of dire health needs in the country.
Muchas gracias a @mariaeulate y al equipo de @RNE5continentes por contar de nuevo con nosotros @ICRC_af La situación en Afganistán es dramática y la urgente necesidad de ayuda humanitaria no puede depender de consideraciones políticas.

People deprived of freedom are vulnerable. In Afghanistan, amidst a massive crisis, their needs increase dramatically.
@ICRC_af provided winter and hygiene items to improve the conditions of the detainees in Sarposa Provincial Prison, ahead of the harsh Kandahari winter.
Heartfelt congrats to @SpoljaricM, elected @ICRC president by our Assembly, the 1st woman ever to hold this position. With her depth of international & diplomatic experience, Mirjana will help lead @ICRC into the future with strength & compassion. https://t.co/GJc881mtkH
ICRC inaugurated an obstetrics triage area for female patients seeking maternity services at Mirwais regional hospital in #Kandahar. The new triage area will help medical staff to do a quick screening of patients to determine the next level of care.
I am livid. Pictures viewed from afar of bone-thin children rightly elicit gasps of horror. Standing in the pediatric ward in #Kandahar’s largest hospital, looking into the empty eyes of hungry children and the anguished faces of desperate parents, the situation is infuriating.
Our team in #Kandahar distributed hygiene items to detainees in Sarpoza prison, including soaps, washing powders, buckets, brushes, plastic mugs and handwashing drums.
The distribution is part of ICRC efforts to improve living conditions for detainees in Afghanistan.

Marking a hospital or an ambulance with a #RedCross to protect people and buildings.
This is in a real world.
What about a server? What about data? What about humanitarian digital assets?
What about a digital emblem?

In @ICRC’s physical rehabilitation centres here in #Afghanistan I’ve witnessed enormous strength and determination.
In the first half of this year alone we assisted 80,000 people.
We help people walk again.
Just as important, we help them re-integrate into society with dignity.
Gracias a Esteban @Villarejo por darnos la oportunidad de compartir con los lectores de @abc_es la grave situación humanitaria que atraviesa la población civil en Afganistán y la respuesta que ofrece @ICRC_af
