Three different interpretations of the Odiyan legend have already reached Mollywood❗

Mohanlal's Odiyan focused more on drama, portraying the Odiyans not at the height of their power, but during the final phase of their existence.

Dulquer Salmaan's Odiyan, part of the Lokah franchise, is taking a sci-fi action route. In this version, the Odiyan is said to have extraterrestrial origins, is seemingly immortal, and exists within a larger universe populated by other superpowered beings. The character is also implied to have influenced major events throughout history in that universe, including killing Hitler. Future installments are expected to reveal more details about his true nature, origins, and role in shaping this alternate history. While this take is likely to be more mass oriented and commercially appealing, it may not stay particularly close to the original folklore.

Prithviraj's Odiyan: Age of Illusion appears to be embracing a dark horror approach. This version could be the one that stays closest to the darker side of Odiyan folklore, which is filled with eerie, disturbing, and often gruesome legends. If the film fully explores these tales, audiences could witness stories of Odiyans allegedly practicing black magic, including folklore accounts involving pregnant women, along with many other chilling and unsettling narratives that have been passed down through generations. It has the potential to be the most horror oriented and folklore faithful interpretation of the Odiyan myth seen on the big screen so far.
