@prescottmaths I used to rush between rooms with a pencil block with 32 pencils, pointy side up. Added an extra element of danger. The risk of dying painfully in a busy corridor kept me alert and gave me the edge when I arrived after my class at the next classroom.
Hope that helps.
@JamesJkbowen Haha I thought you were wading into the 'should you give the pupils a pen' debate a week late. If you were, don't worry, it will be back round in 6 months.
@SamanthasDoodle@MoosicTeech @Positivteacha @ElimuAnn You asked for an example without fixed hours.
I have been discussing UK teaching contracts. Total working hours are not defined. Don't know about US teaching contracts.
@kristinawrites2 @Positivteacha I presumed you meant move within the UK. Was surprised at a state UK school with that many lessons and curious about their school day. ...I see you are from Texas.
@MoosicTeech@SamanthasDoodle @Positivteacha @ElimuAnn Definitely. A teachers day doesn't stop at 3:30. Your contract doesn't define what hours are paid or unpaid. I would expect some hours outside of 6.5 a day though. My original comment was saying that hours outside of PPA to do planning is reasonable.
@jld1119 @Positivteacha Have to generalise to get rough percentages. Most school days are 6.5 hours long but that includes non lesson stuff. I wasn't including after school clubs.
@MoosicTeech@SamanthasDoodle @Positivteacha @ElimuAnn Part of the issue is that there is always more to do, unlike fitting a kitchen. It is reasonable to work more than 6.5 hours a day.
@jamesalexdavies @Positivteacha Didn't say it was sufficient. My point was that prep shouldn't just be happening in PPA unless you are expecting to be working less than a 'normal' day.
@SamanthasDoodle@MoosicTeech @Positivteacha @ElimuAnn Most self employed jobs where you are paid for task completed. E.g. kitchen fitter. Paid to complete a job where you can't define how long it will take.
@MoosicTeech@mikebwtaylor @Positivteacha @ElimuAnn I think you need to read your contract. Likely to be similar to what @ElimuAnn has posted above. It will not say you are paid for 1265. There is directed and undirected time. You have to do enough undirected time to get the job done.
@mikebwtaylor@MoosicTeech @Positivteacha @ElimuAnn Which is why we need to think of it as 1880 hours a year. No holiday work = aim for 9.6 hour term time days. If you do 100 hours in the holiday, adjust your term time days to compensate. I think the problem is we are way above 1880.
