“Tourism cannot flourish where women live in fear and businesses feel unsafe.”
@LimpopoLEDET MEC @MatibeTB makes these sentiments as calls for the tourism and enterprise community to
unite with the people of Thohoyandou in a show of solidarity at the #AriTsireledzeMarch.
@MatibeTB says: When tourists feel safe, they stay longer, spend more, and return with others. When
women feel safe, communities thrive. When businesses feel secure, they expand. Thohoyandou must become a beacon of safety and opportunity — and we
can only achieve this together,
Tourism, businesses and community led organisations in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, uniting against the rise of rape and sexual crimes in the area in the #AriTsreledzeMarch taking place 26 August 2025 led by @LimpopoLEDET MEC @MatibeTB .
@MatibeTB@LimpopoLEDET@OtpLimpopo Two years ago, Limpopo won the bid to host the event for three years.
“We are ready and excited to host the second instalment of the event for our province this year, and we trust it will yield greater results for our people and the industry,”
@MatibeTB@LimpopoLEDET@OtpLimpopo Last year's expo saw over 1,500 learners from rural districts exposed to real tourism career pathways.
20 learners secured learnerships and internships with industry partners, and 10 started their
own tourism-related businesses. These outcomes demonstrate the impact of NTCE.
@MatibeTB@LimpopoLEDET@OtpLimpopo "Government, together with tourism industry stakeholder must aggressively embrace the demand-led model of skills development, which ensures that our training programmes are responsive to the needs of the industry," says Matibe.
@MatibeTB@LimpopoLEDET@OtpLimpopo Panel discussions at the networking session laboured on challenges faced by industry in absorbing graduates with outdated and ineffective skills at establishments.
@MatibeTB@LimpopoLEDET@OtpLimpopo The NTCE is a brainchild of the National Tourism Department, which annually gathers high school students from across the country to meet with various tourism products to create on-hand educational awareness.
Held at the 2025 edition of Africa’s Travel Indaba in Durban, the session brought together industry
stakeholders, academia, and government to discuss innovative approaches to skills development and employment creation in the tourism sector.

@LimpopoLEDET MEC @matibe has stressed the role of programs like the National Tourism Careers Expo in closing the gap between skilled labour force needed by industry and academic institution curriculums at the National Tourism Careers Expo Business Networking Session.
