These are religious and activist topics. "personhood" is anthropology (in the philosophic sense of the word). "colonialism" is Critical Colonial Theory.

You can't simply label your religion and politics as "normal", and every other religion and politics as "tradition". It doesn't work like that.

I did read the whole thread, and I completely agree that philosophy teaches crucial skills. But it doesn't matter; not even to someone like me who's so passionate about it. Institutions are ordered to purposes.

Disordering them to hostile purposes destroys them. It's not like a pro/con scale that can be tipped in your favor.

Many academics have that mistaken mental model. The solution isn't better marketing; it's purging the host of parasites before it has to get euthanized. There are some lines you simply can't cross.

That's also why the strategy to curry favor with the Left because the Right has long been hostile to academia is the worst possible idea. The long-standing hostility from the Right was the signal to fix the problem before they fix it for you, and everyone's patience is worn out after a lifetime of waiting.

Many of Theo's arguments are ridiculous.

1. Arday didn't block his dissertation from being checked with a plagiarism detection service.

2. Critical Theory is activism, not science.

3. Polite society used to avoid inquiring too deeply into the cause of racial disparities. Then they switched to blaming. Excluding blameless explanations (such as that of Cofnas) now that the inquiry is open is simply part of the blaming operation.
