This month marks the Historical speech by H.E President Issais Afewerki.
September 30, in the History of Eritrea.

On September 30, 1993, 43+years after the #UN unjustly decided #Eritrea to be federated with Ethiopia, President Isaias Afewerki addressed the 48th session of the United Nations General Assembly as the Leader of the Sovereign State of Eritrea.

Some excerpts from the historic Speech;

"I feel special privilege & honor to address the United Nations General Assembly on behalf of a people who struggled for half a century to regain their fundamental human & national rights & who, despite the outright military victory that they won took the unprecedented step of organizing a free & fair referendum, so as to join the community of independent states on the basis of their freely expressed wish & on solid legal grounds."

"As I speak here today, I cannot help but remember the appeals that we sent year in and out to this Assembly & the member countries of the UN, describing the plight of our people and asking for legitimate sympathy, support and recognition."

"We appealed to the UN not only in its capacity as a representative of the International community, but also because of its special responsibility to Eritrea."

"For it was the UN that decided in 1950, at the beginning of the Cold War, to deny the colonized people of Eritrea their right to self-determination, thereby sacrificing their national and human rights on the altar of the strategic interests of the superpowers."

"In passing that resolution, the UN affirmed that it "remained an international instrument" which the GA "could be seized of" at any time. But for the next 41 years, as a brutal war of aggression was conducted against the Eritrean people, initially with the active support of the US & later with a much worse & massive involvement of the Soviet Union & despite the repeated appeals of the Eritrean people, the UN refused to raise its voice in the defense of a people whose future it had unjustly decided & whom it pledged to protect. Not once in 41 years did Eritrea, scene of the longest war in Africa, & victim of some of the grossest violations of human rights, figure in the agenda of UN. This deafening silence pained our people. It also gave a free hand to the aggressors, thereby prolonging our suffering.”

"But it neither shook our resolve nor undermined our belief in the justness of our cause & the inevitability of our victory. As an Eritrean proverb says, "The rod of truth may become thinner but it cannot be broken." Indeed, Justice has finally prevailed." President Isaias Afwerki 🇪🇷

Potemkin Party's signature trademark remains boringly the same: a stale chorus of historic revisionism; and, incessant threats of war and invasion in pursuit of "sovereign sea access and maritime power".

These provocative pronouncements are at times sprinkled with double-speak to hoodwink the international community.

Indeed, the language and tone of aggression seemed to have been toned down at the last BRICS Summit while at home, Potemkin Party's senior Ministers and top Military Generals were simultaneously doubling down on the urgency of "correcting a historical mistake without further delay".

The fact is: for the Potemkin Party, the constant variables in the last three years have been, and remain:
- blatant revision of Eritrea's ancient and contemporary history;
- brazen denial and denigration of Eritrea's Statehood coupled with incessant saber-rattling for acquiring "access to the sea".

The Potemkin Party's aggressive policy intent/mindset is again plainly illustrated in yesterday's X post by its official news agency - Fana Media Corporation, Arabic version.

*"...The establishment of a new global order founded upon fairness and justice must be regarded as one of humanity’s foremost missions and should not be relegated to the side-lines".

*"...Last year, I addressed issues in what we call our neighbourhood; specifically, the Nile Basin, the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Gulf, with particular reference to Ethiopia and the Sudan. Because the global vulnerability of the region has worsened, following the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, the importance of collective security mechanism based on an agreement and cooperation among the States in the neighbourhood – rather than the normalized interventionist policies of self-proclaimed regional powers and external actors – that we have been advocating for long has, once again, become abundantly clear.  It is high-time that serious efforts are exerted towards this end".

*"...As it will be recalled, I had elaborated, during last year’s Independence Day celebrations, on our development programmes and priorities across various sectors. While the concept itself is not new, the short-term objective remains improving our people’s livelihood, with priority to marginalized and underserved regions.  The broader and long-term development programme consists of extricating the country from subsistence economy.  It encompasses strengthening productivity, ensuring sustainable growth in production, laying the foundations for advanced processing and value-added industrial manufacturing, and service sectors. Beyond the economic dimension, these priorities also extend to encompass the diplomatic and informational domains".

*"...Road and transportation projects will be expanded according to plan. Extensive housing programmes will also proceed in parallel.  Implementation of projects aimed at expanding electricity and water services will start within this year in spite of potential delays in supply chains.  In the sphere of social services, particular emphasis will be placed on education, beginning from the pre-school level with broad popular participation. Likewise, the expansion of quality healthcare services will be pursued vigorously".

*"...Kudos to the dedicated, hardworking, courageous, patient, and steadfast people of Eritrea, along with the ever-present Defense Forces; the kernel, strong shield, and cornerstone of our development programs.   Even if obstacles are encountered, there is no cause for apprehension. What a fantastic ending to a beautiful commemoration. In the presence of H.E. Isaias Afwerki, ministers, senior officials of the People's Front for Democracy and Justice, military commanders, religious leaders, diplomats, youth, and families gathered at #Asmara Stadium, the magnificent fireworks display is more than a celebration, it is a powerful expression of #Eritrea’s national journey.

Every sparkle that illuminated the Asmara night sky carried the memory of sacrifice, resilience, and triumph. Each burst of light symbolized the courage of the martyrs, the steadfastness of the tegadelti, and the unbreakable bond between the Eritrean people and their hard-won sovereignty.

As the colors danced above the stadium, they reflected the hopes of a nation that has endured immense trials yet continues to stand with dignity, confidence, and unity 35 years after independence. The thunderous applause and emotion transformed the evening into a living tribute to #Eritrea’s history, pride, and collective future.
