@CaCemeteryHist I hope you will visit the English Cemetery in Rome one day Adam! It's not flamboyant as other Italian cemetery are, but it's very peaceful there. 😌Furthermore, Keats and Shelley are definitely a reason to go! 😉

These hand brooches carved in #whitbyjet are extremely rare. The fragile nature of the gemstone means that the delicate fingers were very susceptible to breakage. As an alternative, hands were nearly always moulded or pressed in simulants such as vulcanite or dyed horn.

@Pauline06257671 That's a butterfly inside a ouroboros, a serpent which bites its tail thus generating a circle. The 🦋 is an emblem of renewal, the 🐍symbolises eternity. It's an iconographical motif you often find in funerary art 😊
