@HannahntheWolf Build a koatsu (Japanese heated table) by placing a large thick blanket over a small table and putting a heating pad or other low-temp electrical heat source below. Put legs under table and wrap blanket tightly around them so that very little warm air can escape.

@HannahntheWolf Fall asleep with 1-2 hot water bottles inside a zipped-up sleeping bag. Can also be improvised: hot water in a metal drinking bottle plus cardboard layers around for safe skin contact. Or ~60 °C water in a large 3-5 l plastic jug. (Careful around hot water! Creates bad burns!)

Wear a scarf day AND night. Prevents throat irritation from cold air by counteracting its internal cooling effect with added external insulation.

@HannahntheWolf Acclimatize to the cold by gradually pushing your comfort zone. Gets easier over time (brown fat buildup as heat source etc.). Took me 4 weeks in year 1 for 3 °C comfort temp extension, now 1 week for 6 °C in year 4.

@leashless So very right. Even inside current Western conditions, learning frugal living can shave off 80-90% of consumption. Three possible teachers: insight, laws, physics.

Insight will not work on a mass scale, as people like their comforts. And current laws are against frugality …
