EM Rule 3.21:
Regardless of where it occurs in the entire medical center complex, any inefficiency in patient flow or staffing will always trickle down and bite the emergency department right in the arse.
Making your dying loved one a full code, intubating, doing chest compressions, invasive lines & inotropes until the out of town family can arrive to say goodbye is cruelty.
There. I said it.
Tell the others.
"EMS providers die from transportation collisions at a greater rate (9.6 per 100K) than police officers (6.1) or firefighters (5.7). Rear occupants are 2.7 times more likely to die in an crash." https://t.co/o0KEdRfpy5
Interesting -I have been blocked by @aams The Assn of Air Medical Services. The trade association for the US air ambulance industry. ? because I openly disagree with their basic philosophy of:
More helicopters are always better -regardless of medical quality, safety or cost.
...and the legend of Abernethy grows still stronger.
@FLTDOC1 blocked by @AAMS.
Interesting choice. I suspect that @AAMS may come to regret doing this.

How is it that the "10 min fly circle" has become the standard for HEMS coverage? 10 min fly=approx 20 miles. HEMS should not typically be used for such short hops.
These circles should be 2-3x the current diameter. With that-the gross oversaturation becomes even more apparent
@ketaparamedic@FOAMpodcast@FOAMfrat @AmiTomaszewski @ECHOHeliOps So both I guess. We have options in our goals of care although empowered to do anything in name of safety. I would never use physical restraint in an emergency, but always an option I guess.
Im no fan of insurance companies -but I would not expect them to pay $100 for an aspirin ( actual cost to hospital 50 cents)
I would not expect any person or insurance company to pay $50k for a 20 minute flight in a 25 year old Bell 206 providing basically ALS care
