Got the chance to share my PhD project with some physics undergrads. Good questions at the end + someone approached me after. I thought it went well despite me being caffeinated out of my mind ๐
Didnโt get to take a pic at the event but hereโs a poster with my name on it ๐
Finished my last conference of the year! Had the chance to work on some disordered materials this year, and I had a great time learning about advancements in the field. First time in Durham as well ๐
I had a great time the past couple of days at the CASTEP User Conference at the University of Warwick! Great talks all around and lots of cool new things coming with CASTEP. ๐
Side note: seems like Iโll take a photo like this in the same hallway every year ๐
Forgot to mention, the @CdtTopDes has done it again! We visited @edengirlsbham and presented to their Year 10 maths students what a #PhD is, what #topology is and how it is applied to research, and a chance to apply it themselves through our interactive activities ๐
Hope to eventually present my own work in events like this!
PhD has its highs and lows, but Iโm constantly reminded how much I love science and learning + really privileged to be able to pursue these as a career ๐
I spent the past couple of days at @PhysicsNews CMQM conference. Iโm so grateful for the opportunity to follow along with advancements in the field.
Saw my own growth even as I managed to follow (most of) the talks in magnetism and topological materials tracks ๐
๐ฏ Excited to share all the great work the #outreach and #PublicEngagement group from @CdtTopDes with our new website! Find details of activities, resources and news of what we get up to ๐ฐ https://t.co/KYFuP6ADkm
Just had lunch with most of our CDT cohort! Really nice to catch up with everyone, and weโre hoping to make it a more regular thing ๐ @topologicalchem@DinaMFouad ++
Finishing up the Open Science with ASE conference today! Lots of new things learned & memories made + the chance to see (part of) one of the main science facilities in the UK ๐
There was a really good discussion on open access and open science, with some opinions that I was surprised hearing ๐
Congratulations @topologicalchem on running an excellent series. Can't believe this all stemmed from one of our modules ๐ฅณ
Dr Magdalena Skipper, Editor-in-Chief of #NatureJournal, attended the Open Access (OA) Seminar Series.
We discussed lots of interesting points and had so many questions and resources that they deserve their own thread. First, buckle up for a recap of the session itself!

Here is the big announcement!!! Alexandra Elbakyan (@ringo_ring) will be speaking to us virtually on her thoughts on #OpenAccess research as the founder of #SCIHUB. @unibirmingham students sign up quick to get your place on the 18th November!
Took some time out of todayโs work day to participate in some Lego building c/o Met&Matโs EDI committee.
Meet my spooky โbatโ ๐ฆ
Not too bad for my first time ๐
First time to experience the difficulties of an international student trying to go to a conference abroad ๐
Looks like I'll need a 3 month warning to go anywhere in Europe (where 2 of those are just to get an appointment at the local embassy)๐
