@matpsy_6022 it has to be sent out tomorrow, if i had more time i would probably quantify the exact amount of bebzoyl chloride, and still with the other fractions it might be interesting. on the other hand i do not want to handle more chlorinated aromatic compounds because they are quite bad
@willyiamm The Friedel-Crafts reaction! That sounds like a great idea. The benzyl cation would likely prefer benzyl chloride over benzoyl chloride due to the electron-poor ring in PhCOCl. That makes sense.
@matpsy_6022 turns out I have ethyl benzoate, my isopropyl benzoate I remember I disposed recently. The TLC though (10% EtAcO) seems to show that the product on esterifying has 4 components (left to right), likely benzyl chloride, the ester, and unreacted benzoyl chloride, then benzoic acid.
@willyiamm Half of that fraction might be benzoyl chloride, judging from the strength and size of the spot. I’m not completely sure, though. Still, it’s a good idea to keep the fraction as you suggested.👍️
