NEW NSE CHAIRMAN TAKES OFFICE TODAY

Tom Mulwa officially assumes office today, July 13, 2026, as Chairman of the Board of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).
He succeeds Kiprono Kittony, EBS, who retired on July 12after six years of distinguished leadership that reshaped Kenya's capital markets.

Tom Mulwa's Credentials:

-Over 30 years of experience in financial services, insurance, investment and corporate governance
-Pioneer of Liaison Group, where he has served as CEO since 1999, leading its growth into a pan-African non-banking financial services group operating in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and South Sudan
-Oversees a business generating more than KSh2 billion in annual revenue
-Chairman of Kenya National REITs
/Member of the National Investment Council (appointed in 2022)
-Joined the NSE Board as an Independent Non-Executive Director in September 2025.

Kiprono Kittony's Legacy:
 -Ended the NSE's 11-year IPO drought through the listings of Kenya Pipeline Company and Family Bank
 -Introduced single-share trading
 -Launched the Ziidi Trader M-PESA platform, expanding retail investor participation
 -Oversaw implementation of the NSE's 2025–2029 Strategy
 -Guided the NSE to become Africa's best-performing stock exchange in 2024 and the second-best performing exchange in 2025 (by dollar returns).

Mulwa assumes leadership as the Exchange advances its 2025–2029 strategy, focused on deepening market activity, broadening retail investor participation, strengthening Kenya's position as a leading African capital market, and creating long-term value for investors and the economy.

The Ugandan government is set to start the construction of an international airport in Nyakisharara, Mbarara City.

The airport is expected to have a 5.5km runway and another 3.5km runway for exclusive VIP use. It's among the projects Uganda intends to use to reach the $500B GDP.
