Given the continued leveling off in HS FAFSA completions, I think it's likely we see a 5-7 percentage point decline in the national FAFSA completion % as of June 30. That would be a 10-13% year-over-year decline. When I say "Yikes" it's capital Y.

@mikeitzkowitz @CollegeFutures If that interpretation has been shared, I haven't seen it and neither has NASFAA. If they create a narrow carve out to just being able to report it to IPEDS, that would be an incredible disservice for students and the field.

@BarmakN It needs to be done correctly. The dept is mostly working against itself on the implementation. Independents are doing a lot of the best work on these metrics and could make that 10/1 date in the realm of possibility. The field is doing a lot quietly to fill in the blanks.

@BarmakN I think this issue stands alone as it's own screwup. The "guidance" and engagement on the implementation of these metrics is totally insufficient and associations are not wrong to point this out and demand more/better given the lift/stakes here.

@delislealleges @usedgov @oberlincollege @mikeitzkowitz Could be due to how "working" and "enrolled" are operationalized. and the early capture on earnings (6yrs post enrollment). Earnings in the calendar year students graduate are pretty volatile. They also mention reliance on 2020 earnings that could be skewed (down) b/c of COVID.
