Today's #SaturdaySleeper is 3B/1B Matt Halbach (@UCSDbsb). Had a great 2023 spring season in which he hit .306/.406/.500 with 25 XBH and 39 RBI across 51 games. Proceeded to have a breakout summer on the Cape to the tune of a .364/.455/.512 slash line with 10 XBH and 15 RBI in 32 games. Halbach was a First Team All-Big West selection, Cape League All-League selection, and Cape League All Star.
Lean frame at 6-foot-3 and 215-lbs. Low maintenance setup in the box, slight load with a very rhythmic, in-sync operation. Widens base and eliminates stride with 2 strikes. Like how his lower half works. Present bat speed. Line drive oriented stroke with some impact to the pull side. It's clear he knows what he's doing in the box.
Halbach is an advanced hitter who has plus bat-to-ball skills. Posted a 90% overall IZ contact rate this summer, including 93% against FB. Comfortable using all fields and driving the baseball into the opposite field gap. Would put a 55 on the pure hit tool. Average power to the pull side.
Above average arm over at 3B, though his long term defensive future might be over at 1B. With his bat as the carrying tool, Halbach figures to be selected somewhere in the 5th-8th round range this July.

Matt Halbach (@FirebirdsCCBL | @UCSDbsb | '24) had four hits yesterday and has been impressive at the plate all summer hitting .330. Has hit north of .300 at almost every stop he's been and is excellent w/ two strikes
