Dubas says this and hints in every possible way they are not competing this year and want to gain assets. Yet everyone is angry when he gets assets and acts like he is trying to compete.
He isn’t lying, he just never said he’s trying to make them competitive this year.
@yinzzzerr Seemed like the window is already cooked , and with what GMKD had been saying his plan is there was no reason to keep him even on a 8x8. There is also no guarantee he would’ve signed 8x8 here.
@j_a155 Why would we want to sign him to that? We aren’t going to be competitive the first 5 years of that at least and he (most likely) will fall off by the end of it.
Why would Guentzel want to sign that here when he could go to a competitive team and win?
The whole point of taking a running back in the first round is that you hope they are good enough to justify six years of contract control, and then they leave and you get a new one.
But if they only make it four years and get outplayed by Jaylen Warren…now you got problems.
@DannyShireyPGH What do you think the reason is that they are so bad at finishing? Is it the depth, core, coaching or something else. Finishing feels like luck to me but it’s been consistently bad there has to be a reason.
This is almost eerie when you think about it.
2003: 10 win Steelers had #8 Tommy Maddox went to the playoffs with an early exit with a team plagued by injuries which was enough to make them evaluate they were a QB away from being contenders.
2023: 10 win Steelers who have #8 Kenny Pickett went to the playoffs with an early exit with a team plagued by injuries
20 years later does history repeat itself and they look elsewhere or do they stick with the #8 this time?
