I was curious about why a YouTube channel, Uncivilized, whose videos are explicitly anti-Israel or include gratuitously anti-Israel pieces during unrelated topics, would position itself as US-based, when, turns out, it’s Qatar-based. Here is what I learned:

· It’s co-founded by Qatar-based Salem Barameh. He advised Hanan Ashrawi at the PLO Executive Committee and founded and served as executive director of the Palestine Institute for Public Diplomacy, whose stated purpose is training journalists how to write about Israel. PIPD’s messaging guide instructs journalists to reject neutrality in favor of anti-Israel bias. (Source: Elder of Ziyon)

· He previously worked at Portland Communications in London as a Policy and Public Affairs Advisor to Gulf governments, the same firm that reportedly did paid Wikipedia-editing work for the government of Qatar. (Source: The Bureau of Investigative Journalism).

· According to an investigation by @ellakenan1, the channel’s YouTube page listed its location as the US while its LinkedIn page listed its headquarters in Ramallah. Since Kenan’s reporting, the YouTube channel’s About page now lists its location as Qatar. It lists its “storytelling” as rooted in “activism and community building” aimed at inspiring “collective action.” (Source: Jewish Onliner)

· Kenan characterizes Uncivilized’s content as coherent ideological framework designed to condition viewers toward specific conclusions: that the United States is fundamentally evil and should collapse; that Jews control global institutions and media; that liberal democracies are sources of oppression while authoritarian systems offer superior models.(Source: Jewish Onliner)

· At least one Uncivilized Media founder previously worked for Qatar's Al Jazeera (Source: Kenan)
