The ELC’s Jill Campbell, Matt Devlin, along with ELC graduate Negin Aalaei, presented a session on ‘Strategies for Authentic Student Engagement’ at the TESL Ontario conference today. Success all around! #TESL2019
Best thing ever: New Canadians, mostly from Sudan, Syria, and the Philippines, hitting the ice for the very first time before tonight’s Peterborough Petes game, and getting taught how to skate by local girls teams. (video by @ScottArnold12)
When people ask what makes our language program unique, I say it’s our results-driven, student-centric, task-based, integrated skills approach that focuses on fluency......but I also say it’s because some days our classroom looks like this...

Tip for students going off to college: study 80s/90s pop culture. Particularly Ferris Beuller, Princess Bride, Simpsons seasons 2-5. Your gen x/early millennial profs will try to connect with you through these, and will be confused/sad when you stare blankly at them. Not joking.
Thank you to Rick, Colin and Lena from the @ontariotech_u Indigenous Centre for leading such an engaging and hands-on workshop where our students learned about...then got to make their very own medicine pouches. Miigwetch!
The ELC is excited to announce that we will be a presenter at the annual TESL Ontario conference in Toronto this December. We will be presenting on our innovative approach to student engagement in the English for Academic Purposes classroom. #ot_elc#OntarioTech#TESL2019
Did you know that the ELC also offers customized group programs? These students from Taiwan just completed a successful customized 2-week program. Visit https://t.co/lVWTmmFlGO for more info about our customized programs. #studyabroad#studyincanada#ot_elc#ontariotech#esl
Today, and every day, the ELC is grateful for incredible staff at #OntarioTech's Baagwating Indigenous Student Centre for their leadership, teachings, and kindness. #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay
Today is the last day of our Spring session! Best of luck to our graduating students as they get ready to start the next chapter of the educational journey! #OntarioTech
ELC students took a field trip to the Scugog Shores Museum last Friday. We are so thankful that one of our students, Flavia, took beautiful photos of the day. 🌿🏕#scugogshoresmuseum#portperry
With the #Raptors about to hit the global stage, I’m going to share a story about what makes Toronto, and Canada, so special. It’s about a guy you’re going to be seeing a whole lot of.
A Thread.
[Hint: It's about racism, sports, and why you'll end up cheering for 🍁]
@ot_elc@ontariotech_u@durhamcollege Our alumni guests represented 8 different nationalities - all united as ELC students. The fact they took time out of their busy days & shared such personal stories is a testament to their commitment as learners & their willingness to give back. Collaborative learning at its best!
@ot_elc@ontariotech_u@durhamcollege One of my favourite stories from was Saad whose Prof asked him where he learned to reference & cite so well. "The ELC, of course!" was his response. This led to him being asked to lead a mini lesson to other students on how to properly reference & cite your work. Nice job, Saad!
