I don’t think MLB can let the Doug Eddings incident go without punishment. It’s a horrendous look, Rincon was not breaking any rule, and if what Oli Marmol said is true that’s even worse. Hopefully the commissioner’s office does the right thing.
Doug Eddings made things personal tonight with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Blatantly called a player safe at home when the tag was applied before the runner got to the plate.
Then he stopped the game to tell RP Rincon to straighten his hat.
The @MLB needs to look into this.
Doug Eddings got into with the Cardinals manager earlier in the game, so he called the runner safe here out of spite even after review. He absolutely must be fired. There’s no way an umpire can be doing this in an MLB game
Doug Eddings has been an MLB umpire for 27 years.
He never told Fernando Rodney to fix his hat.
He never told Pedro Strop to fix his hat.
He never told Jazz Chisholm to fix his hat.
But Hancel Rincon can't wear his hat how he likes on "his field." That's blatant prejudice and Eddings deserves to be suspended
I've never in my life walked away from a baseball game thinking an umpire got a call wrong on purpose. They make mistakes all the time, as all humans do, but I've never thought one was intentional before.
Doug Eddings intentionally botched that play at home plate.
He knew the Cardinals couldn't challenge. He had just been embarrassed by Oli after whining about a player's hat, ejecting him, and then calling a vindictive pitch-clock violation for no reason other than pure ego.
Then he absolutely botched that call at the plate on purpose. He was looking right at it. It was as blatant as could be.
This is a new one for me. I've never seen an umpire make an intentionally bad call in retaliation before. Shameful.
Hell of a win by the #stlcards though. I hope @MLB investigates that one.
This is so shockingly disgraceful and Doug Eddings should be disciplined for it.
There are so many players who have worn their hat to the side in the past. For Eddings to try and start a 1950s white America culture war in the middle of a baseball game in 2026 is pathetic.
His job is to call balls/strikes and then keep his mouth shut. That’s it.
There were 5 landing zones on D-Day. Americans know Omaha + Utah. They're the 2 we took. Juno is worth knowing too. That's the one the Canadians took.
On countless battlefields from WWI to Afghanistan, they've fought and bled with us. Show some respect.
