@Thomas33466234@FrancisVeenema The league my kid plays in (of course) has a written rule do not set up behind the goals. Almost every game I have to go tell somebody to move. And they're so dense they never get why they shouldn't sit there...
@mary_pezzulo My mom and her sisters are from the south are thin, and nothing is more valuable to them than looking good. It's the one way out, it's the one way up, to be ugly in any way is to be cursed or just lazy in their minds...
@TheStingisBack What I like about that joke is that it doesn't tell you who Kurt Vonnegut is or that the person writing the paper is the real Kurt Vonnegut. I'd seen this movie four or five times before I knew that.
Zero chance at all that a movie made today would leave that joke hanging
@dwkamish Nobody that I know of across the past 40 years that ever got a PhD from my department ever got a tenured research professor job. A handful of adjunct lecturers.
One guy got a masters the time I was there went on to get a tenured job. Least intellectual guy I ever met...
@patapackala@TLiterarian Everyone I've personally known who was "unhoused" was a person in between things who slept in a car between homes. But I've known at least 9-10 people that happened to. Mostly people perusing graduate degrees who had periods of abject poverty but got good jobs later...
@puddleg@freganmitts I just asked my wife 5 minutes ago if she liked this book she said verbatim: "I loved it but the main character almost ruined it for me. I had zero empathy for him and he pissed me off the entire time". ๐
@puddleg@freganmitts Good for her (and you).
Maybe it's a coincidence that the women I've known hated it, but it seems there's almost some sort of "I can't enjoy a book if I'm disgusted by the antagonist" that affects women more than men?
@KeithNHumphreys@BrendanNyhan If they flunk out half the student body and drive the university into bankruptcy, all they're doing is depriving the good students of an education.
And sadly thatโs not an option for untenured faculty who would like to keep their jobs...
