Sherman called it in 1860:
“You mistake, too, the people of the North. They are a peaceable people but earnest people, and they will fight, too. They are not going to let this country be destroyed without a mighty effort to save it … You are rushing into war with one of the most powerful, ingeniously mechanical, and determined people on Earth — right at your doors.”

One of my favorite @EWTN segments is my 2018 interview with Frank Stephens, an advocate for people with intellectual disabilities.
He shares his message for parents expecting a baby with Down syndrome.
The point was not making the major leagues. The point was forming boys into men. It was teaching them to improve through effort, to play fair and play hard, to learn from failures, to celebrate others’ successes.
Maybe more importantly, the point was boys having fun with Dad. https://t.co/ptOESZISvb

@canonlawyered@maryfiorito The fan of the bohemian working-class Catholic franchise isn't crossing over to the respectable WASP country club franchise, I don't make the rules.
Since we’re having the children-restaurant discourse, this is my only contribution.
While dining out with our 15 month-old, we were inexplicably placed next to a young couple in a near-empty restaurant. We were hyperconscious to ensure our lovable angel-but-still-a-toddler wouldn’t ruin their date.
However, I soon realized the man was speaking ~90% of the time. Places he visited, industries he was interested in, etc. His date politely listened and only periodically chimed in with questions or comments. She did gracefully take interest in our toddler, who as the evening progressed playfully pulled on the tablecloth and squawked with increasing delight and frequency. We eventually paid our bill, ushered ourselves out, and left them in peace.
If I had to put money on it, though, they’re not together. If that’s the case, I’d like to think our disruption-via-kid had some small part to play in the relationship’s demise. (Or gave them a funny story to remember if they stuck together) Dude needed to ask her questions about herself and let her talk more.
I had the honor of working closely with him on a number of projects over the years. He was the real deal.
He had so many reasons to harbor grievances given what he experienced in the civil rights movement, but he had nothing but grace for others. He was always looking to build bridges and converse with anyone who would listen. A titan of a man, one of a kind.

I’m outraged by allegations that the SPLC funneled $3M+ over nine years to “field sources” to infiltrate extremist groups.
Every dollar spent fueling failed agendas is a dollar taken from grassroots leaders actively healing broken communities.
These institutions profit from division.
America doesn’t need more grievance merchants.
We need moral clarity, accountability, and real investment in the people rebuilding this nation from the ground up.
