Two classics - the reel produced by Loop Flyfishing and the original Gaula fly tied by its creator, Jonas.
Fly fishing for Atlantic salmon is beautiful.
For the record - a wild Atlantic salmon…
Nowadays I would not lift them even this far out of the water and note the wet sleeves so that I do not remove protective slime or damage scales.
The green back and white/silver flanks are a sign that this is an early season fish…
Died #OTD in 1995, the great Rory #Gallagher. He has been called "the greatest guitarist you've never heard of" but anyone who follows me knows how much I love his music. #RIP
Protected sharks, skates and rays are being caught at a scale of more than 120 tonnes a year, while endangered Atlantic salmon are also being intercepted at sea when every fish matters.
The report highlights the scale of the problem, with evidence suggesting one salmon is caught for every 1.25km of coastal gillnet.
Mark Owen, Head of Fisheries at the Angling Trust, comments: “We are now starting to uncover the true impact that commercial fishing is having on our Atlantic salmon stocks at sea, a fish that has been recently designated as ‘endangered’ by the IUCN. Salmon angling is heavily regulated in the UK and it is time that the enforcement agencies acted on the commercial sector to save a species threatened with extinction.”
Hannah Rudd, Head of Marine at the Angling Trust added: "Millions of fish are caught unintentionally every year, including vulnerable species that are highly valued by recreational sea anglers. Bass bycatch provisions are being used in ways that risk undermining their original purpose, while species such as tope and smoothhound are regularly caught and discarded. The government must take meaningful action to reduce bycatch, strengthen monitoring and put ecosystem-based management at the heart of decision-making."

The new season of The Last Salmon podcast is here.
Presented by Angling Trust Ambassador @TheJimMurray, episode one brings together Angling Trust Ambassador @marinagibson25, TV fishing legend @MattHayesfish and renowned salmon campaigner @valgerdurarnad for a powerful conversation on the future of wild salmon.
Together, they explore what the UK, Norway and Iceland are getting right and wrong when it comes to salmon conservation, covering everything from fish handling and catch and release to aquaculture, pollution, spawning habitat and public awareness.
Wild salmon are one of the world’s most extraordinary migratory species, but they are under serious threat. This episode asks what more needs to be done, and why the fight to save them must reach far beyond angling.

I'm doing one last weird fish vid for youtube so if you have any pics of strange species caught in the UK and would like them featured let me know. hybrids, colour morphs anything unusual welcome!
Rather than put Atlantic salmon on our banknotes as a piece of pointless virtue signalling, I would remind financiers that their support of the salmon farming industry has brought the speciesto the verge of extinction. If you want to help, boycott the greedy salmon farmers.
Apparently the Bank of England is going to remove Winston from our banknotes and replace him with Atlantic salmon which is almost extinct because their kind does not care. Why not a stegosaurus? Numpties.
The last salmon podcast with @TheJimMurray features me and two female Flyfishers straight from the top drawer. It’s a must listen if you are interested in Atlantic salmon!
You have to be blind to eat farmed salmon!
