Made plans with a very special person to climb a particular mountain this year.
Sadly they died suddenly a few months ago.
Today I climbed that mountain in their memory.

@Nick_Metcalfe Seen so many of those games that ended in defeat, recrimination, complaints about ref, etc.
The fact we ground out a win puts it right up there!
🚨 Today is #WorldFishMigrationDay, but wild fish aren’t celebrating.
Data collected by @wildfishcons shows that over 70,000 barriers, from weirs to dams, are slicing our UK rivers into fragments.
Water UK says water companies won’t treat whole classes of pollutants because it is not legally required.
The big NGOs say no new laws are needed.
That is functional alignment.
Stop the soft-ask scam. Update the law.

Last November, the government promised music and sports fans a ban on the resale of tickets above face value – great news for fans and a hammer blow for touts.
That commitment is now endangered. And the timing couldn’t be worse. [1/2]
Big pissed with the water industry and a fantastic opportunity
Please sign the petition to spark a referendum to debate bringing the water industry to heel….

I’ve had an idea…SALMON SQUAD!
It’s over 20 years since I moved to Norway and to celebrate I am going to offer my social media followers the chance to fish with me in Norway for a week.
I was born in Smethwick in the West Mids and I grew up fishing for gudgeon on the local canals. I never thought I would ever fish in Norway for salmon never mind live here!
It would be great to see the faces of people following my journey and to experience it all over again through other people!
🎣Salmon fishing is not cheap but myself and Anne Marit will get the cost down to a minimum and we will have 6 places this year (August).
🎣Normally our water is fly only but I will allow folks to spin, especially if they have not caught a salmon before
🎣Guests will stay with us at the lodge and myself and Anne Marit will be the hosts/guide for the week
🎣We have six beats covering 2.5 km on both sides of the river.
🎣Double hand rod fly fishing tuition will be included for free (from me) as will the hosting and guiding functions.
🎣I want to offer 2 free places as a competition prize so if there is anyone in a position to help sponsor a couple of slots I guarantee lots of exposure across my various social channels!
🎣The competition would be for people who can’t afford a trip to Norway but deserve to come.
Maybe it’s a fanciful idea but I will announce more details soon!
2 zingers from @MarinaHyde this wk.
"You’ve never seen anything like coming second in something? Weird, because I heard you had – and only last month"
"That’s a hell of a lot less than The Dinosaur That Pooped Easter, but you can’t have it all"
Quality.

This is a beautiful example of a wild salmon. The real deal.
Comparing this creature to a farmed fish is like comparing a Tesla to a reliant robin.
Wild fish like this are threatened by salmon farming. Salmon farms pollute our oceans and pack the fish into “rings.” They spend their lives swimming round in circles and bumping into each other, damaging fins and tails and spreading disease and parasites.
This fish has roamed the open ocean and steeled itself in the icy waters where it hunts its food before returning to the river of its birth to fulfil its instinct to breed. It is perfect in every respect, sculpted by nature and unstoppable. It should never be confused with a farmed salmon.
We don’t kill many wild fish these days even though their flesh, which does not contain the toxins in farmed fish, is highly prized and valuable.
We return the fish not because we would not like to eat them. We return the fish because it’s the right thing to do. It’s time for the salmon farming industry to adopt the same mentality and move their production onto land.
