First of all, fuck the leadership that came up with this idea. Why? Because y'all came up with this idea without carrying out any research to understand what exactly the "Accommodation Fraud" is. I see this initiative as an opportunity to accumulate wealth for yourselves without addressing what you claimed to be addressing!

Secondly, jokes on you all to think a mere “registration fee” and “agent registration” with the school or your union solves the problems of accommodation fraud. I also see this initiative as a means to monopolize off-campus housing agencies (register all, direct all students secretly to a particular agent)

Most importantly, your way of curbing “accommodation fraud” is quack: "access to trusted and verified accommodation agents." I can be tested and verified as you want and still carry out accommodation fraud. Una no wise...
Now let me educate y'all about what accommodation fraud is and give examples of how it is carried out by the agents. Accommodation fraud is:
1. Agents adding up to 200,000 extra fee on the initial total package amount stated by house owners. (Landlord go put house down for 150, agent go increase am to 350k, making exorbitant profits off the students).

2. Agents feeding on the desperation of the students, especially the new ones, merging about 4 students in an apartment that even 2 people struggle to live in, yet they collect a huge amount of money from each of them yearly.

3. Agents conniving with house owners to add their share to the yearly rent of the student. For example: yearly payment is 200k; 150 belongs to the house owner, 50 belongs to the agent. This deal would continue running till the tenant packs out of the apartment.

Do you know that some landlords are now intentionally increasing the rent to an amount that is way higher than the value of their houses? Why? Because they are now aware of the way agents are extorting the students, agents now make more profits than the house owners.

You might call all that business, or business strategies, but that is the real accommodation fraud. How do you intend to solve that? Ehn? Welfare Director???

If your initiative cannot solve these problems, making equitable and affordable off-campus housing accessible to the students, then your initiative is trash! You should just leave it the way it is rather than making it worse or monopolizing the opportunity.

Failure to even do a mere survey shows how incompetent the administration would be. No research was carried out to know what exactly is affecting the students. You don't even know the students you are claiming to represent. Shior!!!!
