"Training for a combat sport has a wider gap between expectation and execution to anyone who's never been tested within the ring."

I was just having this conversation with a 15 year old kid in one of my classes.

He asked if I thought he could make it based on how he'd been improving.

I told him that it is impossible to know until he's had enough amateur fights that fighting feels like sparring.

Because fighting–more than almost anything else–is something you can only get good at by doing. At least the most important parts, which are the intangibles.

Drills and sparring teach you skills, but those are useless if you get frazzled when the bell rings.

It'd be like going to a regular gun range, hitting all your targets, and expecting to fire perfect if some shit popped off and you had to draw in public.

So much of fighting is psychological and emotional management under extreme duress.

You have to get innoculated against it so that your mind and body can execute while someone is trying to take your head off, you're hurt, or frustrated because someone is faster or has better timing.

After 20 or 30 fights–with at least half of them against guys with more experience–your nervous system *should* be in a good place.

Remember when the 1/3 lb lost to the 1/4 lb burger because people thought the former was less beef because fractions?

These are the people you're arguing with on the internet.

When I say that most people are stupid more than argumentative, a lot of you want to argue that they're intentionally misunderstanding to muddy the convo.

I assure you. It's not intentional.

🇬🇧 What a start #PalacePier has made🤩

His 3️⃣ juvenile Stakes winners in UK/IRE so far this year is more than any other stallion standing in Britain! 👑

His two-year-old Stakes winners to runners ratio of 11.5% in UK/IRE is also higher than any other stallion, including Wootton Bassett, #Dubawi and No Nay Never 💪

I have to say, Moscow has some serious advantages over Auckland. The metro system is fast, clean, and runs like clockwork. The city feels alive at all hours, with people out walking, dining, and socializing late into the night. It’s surprisingly safe, even after dark.
