‘So well deserved’, was my first reaction on hearing that @TeAkauRacing David Ellis was being knighted in this year’s 🇳🇿 King’s Birthday honours

In my time I can’t think of anyone who has done more for racing where I grew up. His tangerine 🍊 stable has introduced so many to racing & winning at all levels - at the highest level at elite rates.

I’m in absolute awe of David, alongside his incredible wife Karyn, who for the last two decades have been the leading buyers at @KarakaChat, buying 50-75 yearlings a year, with a spend of $10-15m annually on both sides of the Tasman.

The positive flow on effect of his impact in thoroughbred racing in Australasia has been felt by breeders, owners, punters, bookmakers & the many young people who have been trained within David’s incredibly professional operation.

Weanling sales present a great opportunity to inspect the first foals of stallions ahead of their 3rd seasons at stud. As a breeder, this 3rd season offers the most reward if you can get it right, and seeing their first foals at scale is a helpful piece of the puzzle.
