WNBA Mystics owner Sheila Johnson had no problem with a professional womens basketball league that's 60% black until an elite white basketball player named Caitlin Clark entered the league, and now we have a WNBA race problem. 🙄
Caitlin Clark became the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer across men's and women's basketball. She surpassed the 54-year-old record of former LSU star “Pistol” Pete Maravich. Clark also broke the Division I women's single-season 3-point record.
Clark's average of 28.5 points per NCAA tournament game is the best scoring average among players who have participated in at least 10 tourney games. She's also within range of the all-time 3-point record.
Caitlin Clark broke many WNBA records during her rookie season, including:
Most assists in a season: Clark broke Alyssa Thomas's record with 337 assists.
Most assists in a game: Clark set the record with 19 assists in a game against the Dallas Wings.
Most points by a guard in a season: Clark scored the most points by a guard in a single season in WNBA history.
First rookie triple-double: Clark recorded the first triple-double for a rookie in WNBA history against the New York Liberty.
Most 3-pointers made by a rookie in a season: Clark set the record with 86 3-pointers.
Most points and assists in a two-game span: Clark had 53 points and 29 assists in two games.
Highest percentage of a team's offense: Clark accounted for 73% of the Fever's total points in one game.
Fastest to 350 points and 150 assists: Clark was the fastest player to reach that total regardless of experience.
Fastest to 100 3-pointers: Clark was the fastest player to reach that total.
First player to record 20+ points, 15+ assists, and 5+ rebounds in a game: Clark was the first player to do so.
Caitlin Clark is a game changer as she has elevated the entire WNBA with her elite basketball skills and phenomenal game. That's why people fill WNBA stadiums to see her, as regardless of her race, she's the Michael Jordan of the league.
Michael Jordan was named the Associated Press (AP) Male Athlete of the Year three times, in 1991, 1992, and 1993. He was also the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year in 1983 and 1984. I can't recall white NBA players crying foul, feeling left out or saying they had built the NBA and were deserving of the same accolades and attention.
Race has no place in this conversation as Caitlin Clark is a generational WNBA super star and based on her remarkable basketball skills, records and extraordinary following, she alone has earned and deserves to be the 2024 Time Athlete of the Year.
