I’m so thankful to @golakeschurch pastor Dr. Aaron Burgner for his exceptional leadership of the 2026 SBC Pastors’ Conference. I was honored to be on the program, and every session I attended ministered to my soul. Thank you, Aaron!
@Jason_Gray People are concerned about division, but we're pretty united in actual votes on these matters, though divided on the amendments. That should tell us something, but we're not listening very well.
@Jason_Gray For clarity, I'm fine bypassing putting the weight on the CC. Let the messengers decide. Also, I didn't mean that the amendments (nor those who present them) create division. I'm talking about all the hoopla that comes with them.
@Jason_Gray@bartbarber Let's just see what happens if we stick to our current documents. The proposed amendments aren't fixing anything. We stood on our theology when churches were presented to the messengers. What am I missing? Let's move forward rather than manufacturing division that isn't there.
@Jason_Gray@bartbarber I think there is confusion as to the scope of the ACTUAL division in the SBC. Some, like myself, oppose these motions, not because of the theology behind them, but because of the wasted time and hyperbolic claims.
@Jason_Gray@bartbarber What if we unified around our 26 year old version of the BF&M and continued voting with a huge unified majority on churches that come up for debate? Perhaps the over 30% don't think we need an amendment. What if all the attempt at clarity was actually creating more confusion?
@merelyjwright Gotcha. I must have a different understanding of authority. If someone makes decisions and directs others to carry out those decisions, that would be authority in my estimation. Thanks for the civil discussion.
