It's #WorldWetlandsDay! No grand vistas of peatlands from me; let's give some love to our ditches instead. Often ignored, but they can be beautiful and (sometimes) biodiverse; lines of wilder land in managed landscapes, and they are there in @RamsarConv if you read closely.
The second edition of the Peatlands and Climate Change book is finally here!
A fantastic group of authors brings content on peat accumulation, peatland GHG exchange, responses to disturbance and links to international conventions.

Some important considerations for those interested in understanding and constraining terrestrial to aquatic DOC fluxes in boreal landscapes. Nice job Alan Roebuck and crew!! https://t.co/JJVJSKk3pD
📢I'm looking to recruit a #PhD student to study #mountain#groundwater 🏔️🚰- Where it comes from, how it moves through mountain systems and how it's being impacted by #CC in different settings. More information and how to apply here: https://t.co/1W9LQ2vIUY
National Public Service Week is a chance to celebrate public-sector workers. But MGEU members aren’t feeling celebratory after years spent fighting the MB government for fair wages amid rising costs.
It’s time for fair wages. It’s time to #catchup_keepup#NPSW2023
Winnipeggers have been feeling the heat 🌡️ early on this summer in 2023. We are on pace for the hottest year, in terms of cooling degree days, on record (since 1873).
A reminder of the value of the public good of cooling centres for all.

On the latest from #DontCallMeResilient, as #PrideMonth kicks off, we look at growing anti-trans sentiment (and legislation) in North America; and how these attacks make being trans harder in an already hostile society.

Reminds me of the homemade Lake Winnipeg 3d bathymetry map my amazing sister and her partner made for me a few years back from cutting and gluing some road maps together !
Been a little obsessed lately with mapping in crochet. Here’s bathymetry for Lake Mendota in worsted weight wool and acrylic. Each stitch roughly equals 300 sq meters, and each layer represents a depth change of 10 meters. #gischat
