My parish had a priest who consecrated the precious blood inside a glass wine decanter. Yes, it was liturgically abusive and disrespectful to the sacrament. Yes, those Masses were Mass.

Yes, reverence can vary from the perspective and acts of the faithful, but not from the perspective of the grace made available to them through the sacrament.

“Progressive” thinking is fundamentally anti-human because it thinks that the human experience of humanity changes over time.

God Himself was human and walked the earth. What it means to be human is fixed and complete. We know what a perfect person looks like. That’s solved.

Conflating humanity with technology is wildly denigrating.

People don’t know what sin is.

A priest in my diocese, a very good priest, commented on IVF during a homily, in a correct way. This was a year ago or more.

A parishioner whose child had been conceived through IVF took it personally and an important moment was missed.

All life is made by God to share in His glorious creation. Every that is He made, and all of it is good.

Sin is what YOU do when you say No. It’s a non-participation trophy. Mine are on the shelf and I hate seeing them.

It’s really not possible for a man and wife to engage IVF in a way that’s properly respectful to their marriage, or properly respectful to their children.

But it is never sinful for a child to be born. These are fundamentally different things and conflating them is a category error. The priest’s condemnation of sin was incorrectly perceived as condemnation of a person.

God bringing the best from sin isn’t exactly a new thing.

Today I learned that microbial fuel cells exist.

I thought it sounded cool. I read a paper from a UK university. It is cool.

The US NIH had a paper and I began to read.

The introduction included the following:

“Unregulated release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases resulting from anthropocentric activities have led to increased absorption of infrared radiation from the sun leading to above-normal surface temperatures on earth (IPCC 2014)”

I thought “That’s breathing. Do you want to regulate breathing?”

I checked the date. May 2021.

They were regulating breathing then. They did it. I had forgotten for a moment.

I shouldn’t have. It’s important to remember.

I’m going to answer this claim that “X is turning into TikTok” one time only:

• Posts containing videos already make up close to half the impressions on X

• Many videos from top accounts are simply stolen from other users, sometimes 5 years after they originally went viral.

It’s a mistake to say “Christ didn’t care”.

He cares more than anyone, about everything.
Christ meets us where we are to bring us to where we’re supposed to be.

Becoming like Him means changing. Sometimes it means changing clothes.

Modesty is a virtue, a practical habit or skill learned over time. It’s not weird to be bad at something you haven’t practiced, or even to not know that it’s important.

Being bad at, or being ignorant of, something important is a reason to practice or learn more about it, not less.

“What am I allowed to wear to Mass” is entirely the wrong question, and it’s not weird that the answers don’t make sense, because the question isn’t sensible.

The correct question is “How should I present myself to the God who died for me?”

The answer is “The very best way that you possibly can.”

For some people in some places and times that answer might honestly be yoga pants or dirty coveralls.

Life is hard, and if you do it perfectly you get crucified.

It’s not yoga pants and dirty coveralls for everyone, every day. The point is to be better, even if it takes time.
