On 1 July, Ireland takes over the Presidency of the Council of the EU for the 8th time.
In an uncertain world, our strength is reinforced when we stand together.
In Ireland, the seanfhocal or proverb “Ní neart go cur le chéile” reminds us that we have “Strength with unity”.
⏳ We’re counting down!

Well, it’s time for the world’s leading trading power to retaliate and hit back by taxing sectors that can’t afford to lose the European market. Hello, Big Tech.
@MoreBirths Big endogoneity problem with this research, people who have children are more likely to move to a family home in the suburbs hence the fertility rate is higher in those areas.
With under a year to go until Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Perm Rep was delighted to welcome our new Presidency Policy and Administrative Officers to the team last week! 🇮🇪
A magical moment for me and my family to come back to Old Trafford - my home
From the bottom of my heart - I want to say thank you for the reception - for all the love you shown me today
To the supporters that never stopped being with me throughout my time at this club
Our paths may cross again but for today..
We've seen it all 🔴🟣
Canada shouldn’t settle for anything less than the right deal. Now is not the time to roll over. We need to stand our ground.
The increase in U.S. tariffs to 35 per cent is concerning, especially with tariffs still in place on steel, aluminum, autos, forestry and now copper. While Canada continues to benefit from zero tariffs on all trade that’s USMCA compliant, representing over 90 per cent of our American exports, we need to do everything in our power to protect workers, businesses and communities from the impact of tariffs. The federal government needs to hit back with a 50 per cent tariff on U.S. steel and aluminum.
Canada has what the United States needs: oil and gas, critical minerals, steel and aluminum, electricity, potash and uranium. We’re America’s number one customer and keep millions of Americans working. The federal government needs to maximize our leverage and stand strong in the face of President Trump’s tariffs.
Our government will do whatever is needed to support workers and businesses. We’re building a more competitive, self-reliant and resilient economy by speeding up approvals, building new infrastructure to diversify our trading partners and onshoring every widget we can to fortify home-grown supply chains.
Canadian workers and businesses are desperate for certainty. Let’s work together, united, to deliver it.
Barnier and Juncker would have been wily and found a way to get funding going into Europe.
Draghi would have already spent a year implementing his report and making us stronger.
Von der Leyen signed a lopsided trade deal and pulled a Merkel.
When one door closes, another market opens — fast.
That’s trade diversion.
We’ve launched new tools to track it in real time and take action when needed.

An Irish man, Private Seán Rooney, was murdered by Hezbollah in 2022 while on peacekeeping duties in Lebanon.
This is a profound disrespect to Seán’s memory and to his family.
Náire. Shame.
IN BRUGES was released 17 years ago this week. Acclaimed as one of the great black comedies of the century and the film that kick started the McDonagh/Farrell/Gleeson triumvirate, the making of story is as beautiful as the city it’s set in…
